Green local electricity: The fight of the Collectif des Fournisseurs Verts

Volterres, in partnership with Enercoop, iLek, and Octopus Energy, announces the creation of the first Collective of Green Suppliers. This partnership aims to democratize the understanding of green electricity offers and promote solutions labeled VertVolt by Ademe. The collective proposes a transparent and committed approach. It thus aims to accelerate the energy transition and strengthen consumer trust in renewable energy.

An energy transition supported by citizen demand

The development of renewable energy relies on increased demand from consumers. In France, 42% of citizens state they are willing to pay more for truly green electricity. However, the lack of clarity on certain offers hinders this momentum. The guarantees of origin used to certify green offers do not always guarantee direct supply from local producers. The collective advocates for integrating the VertVolt label into the energy code to ensure transparency and encourage truly renewable production in France.

The collective also advocates for the democratization of intermediated contracts. These agreements, which allow consumers to buy electricity directly from producers, are still mostly reserved for large companies today. The collective facilitates access to these contracts for SMEs and individuals. It hopes to thus energize the development of new solar and wind farms. This would also provide greater price stability in the long term.

Furthermore, the collective emphasizes the importance of local offers to strengthen the acceptability of renewable projects. These initiatives share the economic benefits with the affected territories. They thus encourage communities to actively support green energy projects. This model strengthens the links between producers and consumers. It also meets citizens’ expectations regarding local impact.

A collective approach to meet climate challenges

The French energy context poses major challenges. Electricity consumption is expected to increase by 15% by 2035, driven by the rise of electric vehicles and heat pumps. However, France is lagging behind its renewable production targets. In this context, the Collective of Green Suppliers intends to play a central role. It aims to bring together key energy players around a common vision. This approach seeks to create standards of excellence and mobilize citizens, businesses, and communities around green, local, and accessible energy.

Stéphane Péré, Director General of AREC Occitanie, highlights the importance of this project. He states: « Supporting initiatives like this is essential to strengthening regional renewable electricity production while addressing current environmental challenges. »

The Collective of Green Suppliers brings together consumers, producers, and suppliers around common goals. It aspires to sustainably transform the French energy landscape. This initiative, rooted in values of transparency and local commitment, aims to make renewable electricity accessible to all. The goal is to support a greener and fairer energy transition. The collective embodies an essential collective dynamic to meet the climate and energy challenges of tomorrow.
