This advancement is crucial for Western Australia, where projections suggest that demand for low-emission electricity could see a tenfold increase.

Construction, which will begin in January 2025 and is expected to be completed by mid-2027, could employ up to 140 workers primarily from GenusPlus’s current workforce.
David Riches, managing director of Genus, emphasized the importance of this project for Western Australia, as a tenfold increase in renewable energy production is anticipated to meet future demand for low-emission electricity.
The state government has invested a total of 655 million dollars into this initiative, thereby strengthening other parts of the electrical grid as part of a planning effort to upgrade the energy system.

The “Clean Energy Link” project is just part of the total investment that the Western Australian government is allocating for the energy transition, with a total funding of 655 million dollars dedicated to this region. Additionally, an extra 503 million dollars has been allocated for assessing potential projects in the “South West Interconnected System,” which includes new lines, reinforcements, and upgrades in industrial areas such as Kwinana and Collie. Moreover, the works also aim to enhance the link between Geraldton and Perth to support development at Oakajee.
