ToggleEDP, a key player in the energy transition
EDP Energia Polska, a key player in the energy transition, continues its development in Poland with a large-scale project. The EDP subsidiary has signed a 15-year agreement with Cemex, one of the global leaders in construction materials manufacturing. The objective is clear: install 25,000 solar panels to power several industrial sites with clean, local energy. EDP is not new to projects in Poland. The company is already a leader in the renewable energy sector, with 269 MWc contracted in the Polish market to date. Its commitment to the energy transition is clear, with an installed capacity of 31.8 GW worldwide, of which 19.8 GW is in renewable energy. The company acquired several market players in Poland in 2022. This further strengthens its role as a catalyst in the field of clean energy.

An ambitious solar project for Cemex in Poland
The installations will be deployed across eight sites in Poland representing a total capacity of 14 MWc. This production will allow Cemex to cover a substantial part of its energy needs with low-carbon electricity. The sites of Chełm, Rudniki, Gdynia, Mysłowice, Warsaw Annopol, Lublin, Szczecin, and Gdańsk will gradually be equipped with solar panels in the coming months.
This project is part of Cemex’s sustainability strategy. The company seeks to reduce its carbon footprint and respond to the challenges of climate change. Through this partnership, the company will also reduce its energy costs and achieve its decarbonization goals. In a few months, these solar installations will be fully operational. They will contribute to the energy transition of the Polish industrial sector.
An “As-a-Service” model at the heart of innovation
The partnership is based on the “As-a-Service” model offered by EDP. This innovative model allows Cemex to benefit from solar installation without having to invest in the necessary infrastructure. EDP takes care of the investment, operation, and maintenance of the installations throughout the contract. This allows Cemex to focus its efforts on its core business. The company thus reduces its energy costs.
AsIreneusz Kulka, General Director of EDP Poland, states: “We are delighted that Cemex Poland has chosen EDP’s photovoltaic solutions to achieve its ambitious decarbonization goals. ” This model thus offers Cemex a turnkey solution, without the constraints related to the direct management of the installations.

The benefit for Cemex is clear: the reduction of energy costs through local and renewable energy production. Furthermore, this project will prevent the emission of 9,600 tons of CO2 per year. This is a significant advance for a company with clear sustainability ambitions.
